The Polaris is a sailing ship anchored off the coast of South America, with the captain, a scientist, and some of the best crew members on shore. When their boat returns to the Polaris with only half of the people it left with, the remaining adult crew stages a muntiny and vanishes, leaving the children – young deckhands, cabin attendants and the scientist’s assistant – on board to fend for themselves. They set a course for Florida, intent on returning the ship to America. But the stakes are higher than they ever would have thought before. Whatever killed those crew members who went to shore has come to the ship with them, residing below decks where their food is. Soon they will have to make a choice: stay on board and try to kill the monster, or abandon the ship in favor of saving themselves and, quite possibly, the whole human race.
A thrilling read with all the horrors of being alone on a ship and lost at sea, Polaris is an amazing book for fans of R. L. Stine’s Goosebumps and Micheal Northrop’s Tombquest alike.
