Multicultural Children’s Book Day is Near

Mark you calendars for 2020’s MCB Day, Friday, January 31st. Our small press is super excited to give a shout out to this amazing organization. Celebrating 7 years of diversity in children’s literature while getting those books into the hands of kids, founding members Valarie Budayr from Jump Into a Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom have teamed up to create an ambitious — and much-needed —  national event. We happen to agree with these ladies.

Diversity in children’s literature is more important that ever. These books allow children to see themselves and reflect on who they are and who they want to be. Diverse books allow children to see others in a light that breaks stereotypes. They dispel cultural myths while celebrating differences. Furthermore, diverse books help celebrate what we have in common. Having access to books that are a truer reflection of the world helps children grow into empathic young people. Kids grow to realize their point of view isn’t the only point of view. Be sure to follow all the action via social media using hashtag #ReadYourWorld!
