January's Best: Children's and Young Adult Literary Award Winners - The Omnibus PublishingJanuary marks the start of award season for many. Music, movie, and television award shows are abundant. Even the literary world gives honors this month by awarding the most prestigious in children’s literature, the Caldecott and Newberry awards.

The awards were created to encourage original and creative work in the field of children’s and young adult literature and media. From Philadelphia, PA this morning,  the America Library Association (ALA) announced the 2014 Youth Media Award Winners. Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo - January's Best: Children's and Young Adult Literary Award Winners - The OmnibusJohn Newberry Medal for most outstanding contribution to children’s literature: Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures, by Kate DiCamillo. Two of DiCammillo’s previous novels have made it to the big screen: Beacuse of Winn-Dixie (2000 Newberry Honor Book) and Tale of Despereaux (2003 Newberry Medal award winner).
